Scottish wild food and drink innovators Buck & Birch are wilderness foragers and alchemists creating award-winning spirits and liqueurs inspired by nature. Their unique drinks capture the essence of countryside and are loved by purists, gourmands and cocktail makers.

The brand approached Four Marketing Agency in March 2020 to drive awareness and increase online sales, just as the country was entering the first lockdown and independent businesses had to innovate and evolve to survive.

Four developed a creative PR strategy to showcase Buck & Birch’s commitment to the power of nature and the need to connect. Highlighting their expertise as curators of ingredients expertly crafted by nature, we set out to tell the brand’s inspiring story and illuminate its unique qualities.

A series of storytelling from the founders in the relevant publications for their target audience – business, consumer and community - was complemented by collaborations with like-minded, internationally-renowned brands, seasonal product and cocktail recipe placement and gifting, putting the brand in all the right places and setting them apart. Four also positioned the brand as a leading voice in the food foraging scene.

Over 140 pieces of quality coverage across target publications. From maintaining brand share of voice in Scottish titles including The Scotsman, The Herald and Scottish Field, to featuring nationally in The Times and Daily Mail, luxury blog Lussorian and MSN, plus coverage in food and drink publications Delicious, Olive, Great British Food and trade title The Grocer.

Despite the pandemic’s impacts, Buck & Birch achieved significant growth with online sales up by nine times on the same period the previous year. Four Marketing Agency continues to work with Buck & Birch on a retained basis and to exceed client expectations
